    Today we interview Dr Ann Marie Woyma, Medical Director at Virginia Beach SPCA. Dr Woyma has spent the majority of her career in shelter medicine, including teaching clinical vet students.

    Dr Woyma, how long have you been using VETIGEL®, and how many procedures have you used it in?

    "I’ve been using VETIGEL® for about 3 years and have used it in over 200 procedures so far."

    So, you’re obviously very experienced with VETIGEL®. Tell me about the sort of procedures you’ve used VETIGEL® in.

    "VETIGEL® is great for dental extractions, especially when you have a large number of teeth to remove. It probably saves me 20-30 minutes on each case. We’ve also measured the reduction in blood loss, which can be in the region of 50%, which has to be a great benefit to the patient.

    We’ve also found significant time savings, and reduced blood loss, in mass removals. I routinely use it in enucleations but remove most of the VETIGEL after the bleeding has stopped.

    It’s important to use the Precision Accessories, and not just for dental extractions. For example, they are really necessary for the correct placement of VETIGEL® to control bleeding during amputations.

    But there are a range of other procedures I’ve used it in, including liver biopsies, happy tail and spay/neuter complications. We routinely use VETIGEL® in the castration of adult cats to stop scrotal bleeding."
