VETIGEL® Gives: Rigby's Success Story

From Dr. Woyma, VBSPCA Medical Director:

Rigby first made his way into the animal shelter system in November of 2023. He was found as a stray and brought to a high-volume shelter.

Rigby was examined and found to have a large part of his tail missing with exposure of the bone and bleeding from the remaining portion of his tail. Rigby was also missing a significant amount of fur and had many diseased teeth that were causing him pain and discomfort.

He was estimated to be around eight years old. Because Rigby was initially brought to an animal shelter that had limited resources for veterinary care for their residents, he was being considered for euthanasia due to the amount of care he required and the fact that he was an older cat. Rigby’s shelter reached out for help to see if anyone could save this sweet boy.

Thanks to the generosity of the VETIGEL® Gives program, rather than being euthanized Rigby was able to be transferred to the Virginia Beach SPCA.

Rigby quickly won the hearts of the staff with his sweet nature despite all of his medical problems! Rigby was seen by the veterinary team at the VBSPCA and had the diseased part of his tail amputated. He also had a dental procedure and had all of his painful teeth extracted. With a lot of TLC, Rigby is growing his hair back and feeling much better. Now Rigby is on the hunt for his forever home where he can live out the best years of his life pain-free and healthy.
