This week we speak to Dr Brian Standish, who owns Petsmart Veterinary Services in Commack, NY. The practice opened in early 2024.

How long have you been using VETIGEL^®, and in how many procedures have you used it?

“The hospital opened in early 2024, and we’ve used VETIGEL^® since the start. Other products just didn’t work well enough and they also take preparation time. I’ve probably used it about 10 times so far.”

What do you like about VETIGEL^®?

"It’s easy to use and doesn’t need any preparation, and it gives good rapid hemostasis.”

Tell me about some of the procedures you’ve found benefited from the use of VETIGEL^®?

"I’ve used VETIGEL^® in growth removals, such as papillomas and large mast cell tumors. It achieved hemostasis within seconds. I find the precision accessories work really well, and give great access to sealing off individual vessels. This makes the procedure shorter than it otherwise would have been, as well as reducing blood loss. VETIGEL^® is also great for dental extractions in medium to larger dogs, especially those with significant dental disease. It decreases post operative bleeding, which is not only good for the dog, but also good for client presentation. I have also used it in large dog spays with omental or pedicle bleeding, using the precision applicator to the stump, and also used it whilst removing a subcutaneous cyst."

What else can you tell me about your use of VETIGEL^®?

"It improves efficiency in practice as procedures are shorter. This, and the reduced blood loss, are also better for the patient, which benefits them and the owner. You have clearly had a lot of experience with VETIGEL^®; what other areas do you think it should be considered for. I haven’t used VETIGEL^® in an enucleation yet, but can definitely see its potential."

Would you recommend VETIGEL^® to other veterinarians?

"Definitely. It’s made a difference to my patients and made the clinic more efficient."
